CO2 Laser Treatment

Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Lasers are the highest-power continuous wave laser on the market. The high power of this type of laser makes it ideal for laser surgery and laser skin resurfacing. The wavelength of CO2 lasers is centered around 9.4 and 10.6 micrometers, which is the ideal wavelength for the energy to be absorbed by the water in the skin.

The laser essentially vaporizes a fraction of the molecular bonds in the skin, causing significant generation of collagen and elastin, which smooths and tightens the skin. It is actually forcing the skin to regenerate itself, bringing fresh new skin to the surface. The process can be used to treat even deep imperfections and severe scarring. The results are dramatic, and the CO2 laser remains the gold standard for resurfacing.

CO2 Resurfacing in the News

The Fractional CO2 Laser

Our SmartSkin Fractional CO2 Laser is the gold standard of lasers, delivering thousands of tiny laser pulses into the skin, heating columns of skin and creating instant skin-tightening effects.

The fractional laser also heats deep into the skin, stimulating collagen remodeling of the skin, when the body basically reforms itself into a brand new surface.

Fractional laser treats only a fraction of the skin, leaving bridges of untouched skin under the surface, which minimizes downtime and maximizes results.

The Cynosure SmartSkin Fractional CO2 Laser is made specifically for this purpose, taking advantage of the amazing capabilities of this laser family while maximizing patient comfort and results.

The CO2 Procedure

The CO2 procedure is performed in our luxury Med-Spa in Maumee. Topical numbing cream is applied, and medication or injected numbing agent may be administered for deep treatments or patients who are sensitive to pain.

The procedure has only mild discomfort, with most patients describing only a warm feeling on the skin from the laser. It takes about 30-45 minutes, and you’ll be on your way to a fresh and healthy face.

You can drive home after the procedure, but shouldn’t if you’ve taken oral painkillers before the procedure or if you feel uncomfortable.

Your skin will appear sunburned for a few days, and the outer layer will flake off. You should not wear any makeup for a week. In 7-10 days, the pink appearance will be gone, and your face will be dramatically tighter and smoother.

Your body will continue to generate new collagen for 6-12 months, adding to the immediate results. The results will last decades with a regular skin care plan.

Cost of CO2 Resurfacing

Our CO2 resurfacing procedure varies in cost depending on the aggressiveness of the treatment. We can perform a light, medium, or deep CO2 resurfacing, and may recommend a set of light CO2 treatments as opposed to a single deep CO2 treatment, or the reverse.

CO2 resurfacing treatments can be as little as $500 apiece for small areas that require only light treatments, up to about $2-3000 for a deep resurfacing of the full face or over severe damage or to correct serious conditions. Consultations are always free, so stop by and let us take a look at what you would like to do.
